West Point Cadets Fly Fish on the Esopus - 2024

On 17 March 2024, 5 cadets and 2 OICs from the Cadet Fly Fishing Club visited the Esopus Creek in the Catskill Mountains.  They were met by 8 members of local Trout Unlimited chapters (Mid Hudson, Catskill Mountains, and Ashokan-Pepacton).  The weather and water were wonderful, but in true crazy spring weather fashion, there were periods of sun and calm, clouds, fierce winds, rain, and even hail.  Most anglers caught fish, and two cadets caught their first Catskills trout.  The club was very appreciative of the TU members to come and share their knowledge of the river and fishing.  Support from DCA and internal and external supporters of the club is what allows the club to prepare for and execute trips like this for the cadets.  The club is extremely grateful for all of that support.

Here’s some photo’s from the 4/16/23 event. Thanks to MHTU members (Kevin & Wesley Miller, and Steve Dolce) and Catskill TU members (Don Strauss and Bob Siles) for helping out. All of the cadets enjoyed the day, and caught fish!

West Point Cadets go Fly Fishing on the Esopus Creek

ON APRIL 17th & 24th, 2022 volunteers from Mid Hudson, Ashokan-Pepacton, and Catskill Mountains chapters of Trout Unlimited hosted a group of West Point cadets for a day(s) of fly fishing on the Esopus Creek. While conditions weren’t ideal, everyone enjoyed time spent on the stream.

From Kevin Miller, “We had a great day yesterday, (April 24), with 14 West Point Cadets and 6 volunteers from Mid Hudson, Catskill, and Ashokan-Pepacton chapters of TU. Thanks to all that helped.”
