Griffith's Gnat Emerger Tied by Tim Flagler of Tight Line Productions

Griffith's Gnat Emerger

This fly is reputed to be developed by the tiers at Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone, Montana.  While it has a few more steps than the standard Griffith's Tim claims that it is easier to tie.

 

  • Hook:                    Emerger hook (Dai-Riki #125 shown), size's 18 - 22
  • Thread:                 Light olive, 8/0 or 70-denier
  • Shuck:                   Golden Brown Antron or Zelon yarn (substitute: brown)
  • Hackle:                 Grizzly hackle (slightly undersize)
  • Thorax:                 Peacock herl
  • Head:                    Tying thread
