Charlie's Mole Fly

  • Hook:           caddis emerger size 18 to 24
  • Thread:        gray
  • Wing:           natural gray CDC
  • Body:           brown beaver dubbing

 

This is a very easy fly to tie.  Charlie Craven has been fishing this fly for more than ten years and it has become his "go to" pattern for any small mayfly hatch.  The forward swept wing supports the fly on the surface and allows the body to hang below the surface like that of a crippled or emerging mayfly.  The mole fly has proven to be effective in tough situations such as fishing for smart fish in tail waters.  (Be sure not to apply dressing to the wing when fishing it.)  Go to the link below for a step by step sequence on how to tie it:
